PRINCIPLES WE EMBODY EVERY DAY
Team Culture
-
Exceptional people with a phenomenal culture will drive successful results.
-
Great cultures work differently, not for the sake of being different but because they are committed to excellence.
-
Everyone has a say in solving team problems. Silence is a cancer that will not make things better. If you have an idea that might add value, speak up.
-
Stay loyal to the team and the mission because that will lead us to success. Do not remain loyal to individuals who selfishly put their interests first over the team or mission.
-
Build a culture where it is acceptable to make mistakes, but unacceptable not to learn from them.
Dependability
-
If you say you are going to do something, follow through on your commitment. There is no room for individuals that exhibit a lack of follow through - this will degrade our team's legitimacy.
-
Be dependable as an individual. People who interact with our team will depend on us to help them accomplish their goals.
Persistence
-
Do not rush to find a mediocre deal just to stay busy. Our team will constantly strive to look for great deals, because great deals are the expectation.
-
Our Team will work harder than anyone else. Persistence is our key to success. We may not be the smartest, or the most talented but we will not be outworked.
-
If someone else says it can't be done, consider this a challenge. The team is counting on your ability to solve problems, and there is always a way to solve the problem you face.
-
Always follow up. If you are waiting on an answer and you aren't getting it, reach out and ensure 100% completion.
Team and Self-Evaluation
-
Often times, team members will get sucked into the daily grind. Afford yourself some time to meditate on the what you performed well on that day and on what you could have done better.
-
Issues that the team is having need to be brought to the attention of everyone. If our team cannot have blunt conversations about ways to improve, the team will remain mediocre. Even if the team seems to be flourishing, there are always ways to make it better.
Trust
-
With what we are trying to achieve, it is impossible to have one individual accomplish all the tasks, which is why we are building this team.
-
Each team member will need to count on their peers and subordinates to support tasks that they cannot accomplish themselves. Teams operate best when they are working in sync and everyone shares the burden.
Honesty
-
It's better to have a straightforward conversation than to keep something in the dark. Only say what you would say to someone else if they were standing in the room. No behind the back conversations.
-
If you need to talk to someone about something, do so face to face. If you can't speak face to face, then use the phone. If your phone is broken... only then send an email.
Expectations
-
Team members must understand what the standard is, so they can understand what they should be achieving. Be clear in stating the standard. If you don't know what the standard is ASK.
-
If team members are consistently not meeting the standard, remove them. There is no time for rehabilitation.
Future Outlook
-
In the spare time that you do have, look to see what the next frontier is likely to be. This will be the only way the team can remain relevant in a dynamic environment.
-
Do not get sucked into the “Things are going great now, this will last forever” mentality. Constantly improve your position.
